One of the hidden gems in the Himalayas is the Rolwaling Valley, which offers intrepid trekkers a unique and relatively unexplored adventure in Nepal. It is located to the west of the Everest region. The valley is still remote and yet to be fully explored in terms of its cultural and natural aspects. The remote and rugged terrain is often referred to as the “graveyard of yetis” due to its mythical associations with the elusive creature.

The trek begins in the rural town of Charikot (Dolakha), accessible by a scenic drive from Kathmandu. As you venture deeper into the Rolwaling Valley, you’ll be immersed in pristine nature. The trail follows lush rhododendron forests, terraced fields, and charming Sherpa villages, providing an authentic glimpse into the traditional Himalayan lifestyle. The real adventure begins as you ascend towards the TashiLapcha Pass, a demanding high-altitude pass at an elevation of approximately 5,755 meters. From the summit of TashiLapcha pass, panoramic views of majestic peaks, including Gauri Shankar and Melungtse, can be observed clearly.

One of the remarkable aspects of this trek is the breathtaking Tso Rolpa Lake, a high-altitude glacial lake set against the backdrop of towering peaks. This is a serene spot for trekkers to rest and soak in the stunning alpine scenery. This trek is also an opportunity to connect with the local Sherpa and Tamang communities. Trekkers can interact with the friendly inhabitants of remote villages.

To conquer this trek, spring and autumn seasons are perfect as the weather is favorable for clear views. Trekkers should have proper clothing, including shoes, down jackets, waterproof jackets, and hats, etc. Proper acclimatization and physical fitness are crucial for a successful trip. Our itinerary allows enough time for better acclimatization. The trek’s remote location, pristine natural beauty, and encounters with the warm-hearted people of the region make it a once-in-a-lifetime journey for trekkers.
